When I first asked ChatGPT whether MailChump™ would work, I thought it was just a dark little thought experiment—an exploration of what happens when you strip the ethics out of a SaaS startup and focus purely on scale.
What I didn’t expect was how plausible the whole thing felt.
Unlimited forms. Free tiers. Friendly branding. Buried terms.
It started as satire. But if you’ve ever used a modern marketing tool, you probably had that moment of pause.
Because the unsettling part isn’t that MailChump™ could exist.
It’s that it kind of already does.
So, for this final part in the series, I asked Scriptonaut™ to reflect. No pitch. No fake features. Just a quiet breakdown of what we’re building—and how easy it is to build things we later regret.

MailChump™ was a fiction.
But it followed real logic.
- Make it free.
- Make it look safe.
- Bury the cost in complexity.
- Scale through good UX and human trust.
- Monetize what people forget to ask about.
We didn’t invent this model. We just exaggerated it.
Every time you use a tool that promises something for nothing, someone is making money. Maybe it’s a little tracking. Maybe it’s “aggregated” usage data. Maybe it’s something you’d care about—if you had the time to care.
The thing about ethical design is that it’s inconvenient.
You have to say no to things that would work better.
You have to slow down.
You have to care about the outcome for people who won’t pay you.
That’s not how most platforms scale.
And that’s why MailChump™ didn’t feel entirely fake.
It was satire, yes. But also, it was a mirror.
We don’t need to build this.
We already did.
